Design Opportunity:
Sometimes humans are not very good at reminding themselves about their day to day triumphs/failures - all of which are important! We remember special events, but we forget how we feel on a daily basis.
At the rapid pace of our lives today, reflection is important. How can we make this not only convenient, but also meaningfully reflective in an alternative way.
What is Song365?
‘Song 365' encourages you to tap into your emotions & log it every day.
Every time you tap in an emotion via a gesture, a note is stored for that day. You will be simultaneously presented with a visual of a happy/sad/angry face and your Song365 will light up to a relevant mood colour for that days mood.
After a Year we will be able to see and hear how it was; translating our emotions into a Song, so we can remember that there were some months that were amazing. And others that were not ! We are allowing ourselves to reflect about the situations that makes us feel that way.
Initial Brainstorming
IDEATION:
2. Several iterations after, narrowing down to 3
5. Final interaction layout with storyline for video storyboarding
Prototyping / Creation Process:
Hi fi Prototyping, using p5
We started with low-fi prototyping
3. Fleshing out interaction of the chosen concept
CONCEPT VIDEO
Slowly moving into physical making using cardboard & laser cutter, mostly testing gesture interaction and how it feels, looks (still low-fi)
Then heading towards mid fi prototyping, once we were happy with the shape and feel of the interaction we mocked it up on fusion 360 and printed it with basic materials, put in the electronics
Integrating a screen module for emoji of feelings to correlate with the lights and sound
Tech Interaction Sketch showing interaction flow, sensors, logic, components
Emotional Gesture Input & rethinking conventional interfaces in technical devices
We wanted to design an authentic mood input for the logging (interaction), one that was respectful to how people truly felt. We felt this would add to meaningfulness and connection by the action (interaction) of logging your mood itself.
We believe that by allowing individuals to express their emotions in such a way could be relieving too. The feedback loop of colour and releasing a tone is a fun way to acknowledge and hopefully (over time) embrace all our emotions, the good, the bad and the ugly!
